Booster Box vs Elite Trainer Box: which is better value?
Per-pack maths, sealed-collecting upside and what each format is actually for — so you buy the right one.

When you're buying sealed Pokémon, the two formats people agonise over are the **booster box** and the **Elite Trainer Box (ETB)**. They look similar on a shelf but serve very different jobs.
## The per-pack maths
A booster box gives you the lowest price *per pack* — it's the bulk format. An ETB costs less up front but includes fewer packs alongside accessories (sleeves, dice, a player's guide). If your only goal is opening packs, the booster box almost always wins on cost-per-pack.

## When the ETB is the smarter buy
The ETB shines for **new or returning players** and for **collectors who value the accessories**. The sleeves and storage alone offset part of the price, and limited-run ETBs (especially Pokémon Center variants) can appreciate sealed.

## Bottom line
Buying to open and chase hits? Booster box. Buying to play, sleeve and store — or to hold a clean sealed collectible? ETB. Compare both above; prices update hourly across every retailer we track.
