How to spot fake sealed Pokémon products

The shrink-wrap, weight and print tells that separate genuine sealed Pokémon from counterfeits.

Counterfeit sealed Pokémon is a real problem, especially for high-value vintage and popular modern sets. Here's what to check before you buy.

1. The shrink-wrap

Genuine factory wrap is tight, with clean heat-seal seams and no loose folds. Counterfeit wrap is often loose, cloudy, or has visible glue. Re-sealed product is the most common scam — look for wrinkles around the edges.

2. Weight and feel

Fakes frequently use lighter card stock and thinner foil. If you can compare against a known-genuine copy, a noticeable weight difference is a red flag.

3. Print quality and fonts

Check the set symbol, copyright line and barcode under good light. Blurry text, wrong fonts, or a barcode that doesn't scan are strong tells.

Buy from tracked retailers

The simplest protection is buying from established retailers. Every price below links to a retailer we track and monitor — no third-party marketplace surprises.
